With the arrival of the holiday season, Palma is dressed in musical magic thanks to Piano a Ciutat 2025, a cultural initiative that transforms the streets and squares of the historic center into an open-air stage. This proposal is not a traditional concert, but rather a collective gift: real pianos are placed in public spaces so that anyone—whether an experienced pianist, a curious beginner, or simply a passerby—can sit down and play freely.
The first Piano a Ciutat session for this edition begins on November 29, 2025, at the iconic Passeig del Born, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Over the following weekends and festive dates, the pianos move through different points of central Palma, creating a spontaneous musical circuit that continues until December 27. The final session is scheduled for that afternoon (5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.) in Plaça Marquès del Palmer, next to the Born.
In addition to the Born, other key locations host the pianos on different dates: Plaça de Cort, Carrer de Sant Miquel (next to the Church of Santa Catalina de Sena), and La Rambla. For example, Plaça de Cort will feature sessions on November 30 and December 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, on Carrer Sant Miquel near the church, the piano will be available on December 6 in the morning (11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) and again on December 20 in the afternoon (5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.). La Rambla also joins the magic on December 19, with a morning session from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This project is entirely open and free. No registration, payment, or musical experience is required. The goal is simple: to transform Palma into an interactive concert hall, allowing music to flow naturally and without barriers.
The atmosphere at each session is intimate and generous. As people stroll by—families, visitors, residents—many stop, sit at the piano, and offer spontaneous melodies. Some pieces will be carols or holiday tunes, others pure improvisation, and some moments arise from the unexpected collaboration of strangers who cross paths by chance.
That spontaneity is precisely the beauty of the project: it is not a concert where everything is planned, but a space for surprise, participation, and musical connection.
For those wandering through the center of Palma during these December days, hearing piano notes drifting through a pedestrian street—right in the midst of the holiday bustle—is a delicate and evocative experience. It feels as though the city itself is breathing music, offering everyone the chance to become part of the soundtrack of the season.
Moreover, Piano a Ciutat is not only for pianists. Many people simply stop to listen, feel moved, and participate as an audience. It is an activity for all ages. Children can experiment with the keys, teenagers can play their favorite pieces, and adults can rediscover melodies stored in their memory.
Ultimately, Piano a Ciutat 2025 turns Palma into a shared stage filled with harmony—accessible, magical, and deeply human. It is an invitation to slow down, to look around, to share, and to make music together in the heart of the city, with no other intention than to enjoy the present moment. A simple yet profoundly meaningful initiative that celebrates creativity and social connection during the most festive time of the year.
