Well, well, well…
Just a week ago we were talking about International Fun at Work Day — celebrated every April 1st — and about how important it is to enjoy a healthy atmosphere in the workplace.
As we mentioned then, this isn’t about being in party mode all day and finishing the day with your tasks still incomplete. It’s actually the opposite. It’s about enjoying. Yes, in every sense of the word.
Just in case you got distracted: the work still needs to get done too, okay? 😊 (Some might take it the wrong way and not get anything done... We do not want that!)
Let me set the scene, although it’s probably easy to understand for anyone who has the chance to carry out their work in a place where laughter and good moments are also part of everyday life. Between meetings, you can also laugh with a colleague while making a coffee in the kitchen. In fact, you should.
A short break can be an opportunity to laugh, to stop thinking about that thing that has had you mentally “blocked” for more than 15 minutes. And in this sense, these moments can appear out of nowhere — from a knowing glance, from bumping into someone on the way to the coffee machine.
But they are also those moments of complicity between colleagues: a laugh, a look that says “I can’t take it anymore.” Those little people you share these situations with are the ones you need by your side — and very likely, they need you too.
At some point, we have all felt overwhelmed by workload or by the unexpected challenges that can appear on any given day at work. And yes, you have to deal with it (both work management and emotional management are still VERY important), but it’s also important to give the people around you the place they deserve when that happens. And to recognize everything they do for you without even realizing it (and no, it’s not about doing your work for you) — and what you probably bring into their lives as well.
Because we come back to the same thing: that look, that laugh, that hug, that mini dance moment to clear your head (to disconnect from what’s overwhelming it), or whatever you do to momentarily “switch off,” is just as important — or even more — than the report you’re working on, the targets you need to meet, or whatever task is on your plate.
Giving yourself — and those amazing people — those moments is ESSENTIAL.
Now, careful! This doesn’t mean you should spend the whole day dancing TikTok choreographies or sitting at the kitchen table for 7.5 hours talking about how CrossFit changed your life. (Although hey, five minutes to record a fun TikTok for the company profile is totally fine! 😊)
So grab that person (or small group), thank them for those moments, let them know you appreciate and value every moment you share together, and then get back to what you need to do. And if you feel a little soft-hearted, tell them you love them. That’s always nice, always appreciated, and the good things should always be remembered. (It shouldn’t always be about remembering the bad or the less good.)
In short… dance, smile, wink, talk, hug!
For you, for them and for your mental clarity.
Oh, and do it both at work and in your daily life. After all, if you’re going to do it, why not bring that positive energy into every area of your life?
THANK YOU! YOU ARE LOVED!
