At MarSenses, we are different. Although we already knew that—and so did you. And it’s not just something we say: you can feel it the moment you walk through the door, when you talk to our team, when you live the experience. We could even say we’re a little peculiar. That’s why, even though it’s not our official anniversary, today—January 10th, World Peculiar People Day—feels like the perfect excuse to celebrate what defines us and makes us unique.
For a long time, the world has rewarded what is homogeneous, correct, and “normal.” However, more and more of us believe that what truly matters lies in authenticity, in what breaks the rules, in the diversity of perspectives, stories, and ways of being. Today is not about celebrating oddness for the sake of it, but about the freedom to be yourself without asking for permission. And that is something we carry very deeply at MarSenses.
Being peculiar, to us, means not fitting into predefined molds. It means daring to do things our own way, listening to people before trends, and standing for real values rather than what simply looks good in a photo. We believe hospitality is not a standard—it’s an attitude. That every guest is different, and every experience should be too.
Our way of understanding tourism is closely connected to this philosophy. We stand for a more human, conscious, and close-to-home model. A clear example is our Humane Room (Aka: Solidarity Room), a project that goes beyond accommodation and turns every stay into a gesture of positive impact, allocating its revenue to social causes that support young people at risk of exclusion. Because being peculiar also means believing that a hotel can—and should—play an active role in society.
We are also peculiar in the way we care for people: both those who visit us and those who are part of our team. We promote safe, inclusive, and respectful spaces where every identity is welcome. We are a point of reference and a place of trust for the LGTBIQ+ community, and we work continuously on training and awareness so that diversity is not just a message, but a lived reality every single day.
Our connection to the local environment is another of the “peculiarities” that define us. We choose local, organic, and responsible products because we believe luxury can also be sustainable and conscious. We collaborate with people, producers, and projects that share our vision—even if that means going against the current. Because what’s easy is not always what’s right, and what’s right is often deeply peculiar.
Celebrating World Peculiar People Day means, for us, celebrating those who dare to be different—those who create, question, and feel without filters. It’s about celebrating our team, our guests, and everyone who is part of this one-of-a-kind family and who, through their unique way of being in the world, gives this project its soul.
Today—and always—we continue to stand for diversity, creativity, authenticity, and everything that steps outside the ordinary (or what is socially understood as such). Because being peculiar is not a flaw: it’s a strength.
Happy World Peculiar People Day!
PS: We’ll also take this moment to say: Happy New Year! Another topic worth debating (and one we’ll explore in future blog posts) is: “How long can / should we say ‘Happy New Year’?”
And most importantly, thank you—to you, to all of you.
Thank you for being part of what makes us different.
