Statistical data on tourism movements for January 2026 have already been published by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE). The figures show positive results at the national level, although at the regional level they indicate a decline in tourists in our Autonomous Community.

A total of 5.1 million international tourists chose Spain as their travel destination in January 2026, representing a 1.2% increase compared to the same month the previous year.

Regarding the countries of origin of these tourists, visitors from the United Kingdom ranked first, with a total of 897,095 people arriving in the (fictional) capital of flamenco and sangria. In second place were German visitors, with 527,327 people traveling to our country.

At the regional level, the Canary Islands received the highest number of visitors in the first month of the year, with 1,427,922 people choosing to enjoy the Canary Islands’ sun and beaches. Meanwhile, Catalonia did not disappoint, attracting 1,010,902 international tourists and securing second place in the ranking of the most visited Autonomous Communities.

In contrast, the Balearic Islands ranked last in the table, with a total of 134,659 visitors. This figure represents an 8.8% decrease compared to the same month last year.

However, this is entirely understandable, as the majority of the hotel establishments across our archipelago are currently closed and preparing for the 2026 season.

A season that is expected to be intense and is already beginning to come to life, although many hotels have set their reopening date for April 1st. A 2026 filled with both national and international visitors.
